Vivarium
Size: adult 48x18x18
Baby:36x18x15
(Wooden tanks are not recommended as they don’t really give an ideal cool spot)
Heating:
Bearded dragons need a basking spot of a temperature between 90f-100f and a cool spot of about 65f-68f.
Equipment needed:
Substrate-dessert sand (adults only) or orchid bark, water bowl, spot bulb, u.v.b.lighting 5.0-8.0, a temperature gauge and a humidity gauge and some pieces of wood for climbing and basking on.
Baby bearded dragons:
Use newspaper as a substrate for baby beardies this avoids any problems with compaction, make sure there are two pieces of wood ,one at either end of the vivarium. The piece of wood on the heated side needs to be at least 6 inches away from the spot bulb as the bearded dragon will over heat if too close. Only a 40w bulb to be used in a 3ft vivarium. Spot bulb and u.v.b. light tube to be kept on 12 hours a day only.
Water:
Bearded dragons are not good at detecting still water; make water available for them to drink at all times.
There are two ways of making a bearded dragon drink.
- Spray the sides of the vivarium (this is especially important for baby beardies as it will encourage them to drink and will stop them from becoming dehydrated)
- Dribble water slowly into a bowl, or use a mini waterfall (exoterra) if a bearded dragon disturbs the water in a bowl they will drink it.
