Morios(giant mealworms)
These mealworms like it warm, do not put them in the refrigerator. To prolong their lifespan add a small piece of carrot or potato to their container to provide moisture.
Mealworms.
Keep them cool and they will last for ages, a piece of carrot or potato will provide moisture, remove from fridge 30 minutes before feeding to reptiles
Brown crickets
Keep them in a larger container if you intend to keep them for a while. They like warm conditions feed on a small piece of carrot or potato. Crickets need to drink water so a jar lid filled with water with some cotton wool placed in it will stop them from drowning.
Black crickets
As for brown crickets but supplement their diet with a high protein food such as fish flakes which are ideal.
Locusts (hoppers)
Locusts will keep fine at room temperature. provide small pieces of carrot or greens to provide moisture. Adults should be kept in a larger container if you intend to keep them for a longer period of time.
Wax worms.
Wax worms are moth larvae that are Best kept in the fridge as they will last longer. If you feed the wax worms they will turn into moths a lot quicker.
Fruit flies.
Best kept at room temperature .they do tend to smell a bit so make sure the area is well ventilated. The fruit fly culture will provide flies for up to 2 weeks.
Bloodworms
Best kept in the refrigerator and will keep for up to 7 days. Before feeding the bloodworms to your fish you will need to strain the water away then simply place the net in your tank and let the bloodworms float out into the tank. To keep for longer periods of time you can refresh the water they are kept in then re-bag and put back into the refrigerator. Some people may have an allergic reaction to the bloodworms,
Make sure that you wash you hands well when handling all live foods.
Daphnia.
Daphnia are commonly known as water fleas they are better kept in the fridge and will keep for up to 7 days, as with the bloodworms drain through a net before feeding.
Brine shrimp
Brine shrimp can tolerate high temperatures, room temperature is fine, do not put them in the refrigerator, this will shorten their life span. Brine shrimp is kept in a salt solution so drain before adding to the aquariums. These little critters are a very good source of protein and will be relished by all fish, especially marine fish.
Tubifex worms.
Keep cool, can be kept dry on newspaper. To prolong their life span wash in a net under the tap every 3 days they can be kept for up to 2 weeks.
Important notice.
Some live food will carry disease, stick to a regular supplier, do not buy from different sources. Make sure you wash your hands every time you handle live foods.
